10 Wooden lobster pot marker buoy in a variety of colours. There is a rope handle at the top that was used to tie the marker to the lobster pot. Made in Canada, some of the buoys have the original sticker on them.
There may be some surface scuffs, marks and/or splits in the wood on the buoys. Please note that this listing if for a group of 10 buoys. A selection will be made for you and the ones you receive may not be the ones in the photographs.
Bright buoys marking the locations of lobster traps have been an iconic piece of maritime culture dating to the late 1800s, when trapping became a common method of lobstering. To distinguish one lobsterman’s traps from others, it became tradition—and then law—to paint buoys a unique pattern and colour scheme. The colours would be registered with the coast guard and this ensured all pots were harvested by the right boat.
